Hi, I’m Dr. Jason Siefferman, medical director at Manhattan Pain Medicine. Thank you for considering us for collaboration with your patient care. In order to provide the best, the most comprehensive, the most efficient path towards healing for our patients, we have developed a process.
Now, that involves focusing in on the zone of expertise that most closely applies to the patient’s needs, setting them up with an intake visit, which is often with one of our PAs. That intake visit is protocolized. It is standardized. It covers all the bases for intake for that zone of expertise, which means that we will internalize all of the prior medical records. We will understand their current needs. We will set them up for any labs, imaging, any further workup that needs to be done to clarify what’s going on with them. And we’ll even set them up with initial first-line treatments before they meet with our attending physician for that first consultation, which is their second visit with us.
We found this process to be more pleasing to patients because that first visit is often overwhelming. It’s a lot to digest and get through. And as a provider myself, it’s easy to go down a rabbit hole that is not necessary and go off on a tangent. I can tell you from personal experience, those visits might last two, 2 and a half hours just because I’m very curious and I enjoy delving into these issues with patients and at the same time they’re desperate. They’re suffering. They’ve been going through this for a long time and they want answers and then they think if I have the answer, they want to get it out of me and I don’t blame them.
I’m not as helpful in that situation as I am after our PA has done the intake, collected all the information, done the next steps, which is what I would have done at that first visit anyway, and then collected it for me. So that when I meet with the patient for that second whole hour, I have all of that in front of me. They’ve kind of gotten to know us already a little bit and we can really dive into the very specific issues and I have the knowledge available to know what next steps need to be taken. And I’m happy to stay in communication with you. We appreciate your referrals. We want to work together. We know it takes a village for a lot of these complex conditions and I thank you for your support.
